Appearance

Rory is a 5'4 man with ginger hair and a full but closely trimmed beard. He sports a carefree and friendly exterior, but hides immense guilt for the many deaths he caused and for dooming his hometown.

Background

Rory was born and raised in a plain medieval farming village, but unlike the rest of the townspeople, he was born with a wanderlust. One day he gathered his things in a bindle and set off in search of adventure and treasure.
Luck was not on his side, however, as he unknowingly crossed the border into a grim and shadowy region of Manifold, an unnamed metropolis shrouded in a thick fog and populated by deformed humanoid monstrosities. Formerly a reasonably ordinary noir city, it was twisted by an invading demigod, Vol, who infested the land with its curse. Vol was power hungry and cared little for life, and its magic reflected this -- the former citizens in their pitiful monstrous forms were made to worship it, and their faith was turned magical by the curse, siphoning life force from them to the target of their affections. For years Vol fed from its victims as they grew weaker, more broken, and less human -- until one day, an outsider wandered into the city.
Rory's sudden appearance caused quite a stir. The citizens saw this pristine human, untouched by Vol's influence, and suddenly found hope that he might be their saviour. This hope became faith, and suddenly all the power being fed to the demigod flooded into Rory instead. This gave the formerly plain farmer supernatural abilities, enchanted his equipment, and made him extremely lucky. Being naive, young, and thoroughly out of his element, though, Rory did the only thing he knew how to do -- he fled. In rage, Vol leveled the city, consumed its residents, and went to take over Rory's hometown for new meals, as Rory himself set off on a journey, endowed with new power but burdened with a terrible past.
