Onmyōji beta
Description
When designing a mission for an onmyōji, there should be space for bringing the supernatural to the forefront. While they excel at investigating and solving supernatural threats, the elements exist everywhere and they can show the most rational world the spirits beneath the surface.
Grounded in the magical court diviners of Heian-era Japan, the class also draws heavily from the Chinese magical traditions that merged with Shinto practices to form the basis of Onmyōdō

Ofuda
BaseA Low number of enspelled strips of paper. Can be placed or thrown down to ward a door or passage against a Pitched class of beings. Effectiveness scales with specificity of the ward. (Low effect for “any evil being”, high effect for “Goro-Goro, King of the Shadow Demons”) Maximum of Low Effect if a non-supernatural target is named. Ward has Low duration once it has been tested.
Senkō
BaseSelf-lighting incense sticks; enough for Low uses. When lit, all disturbed spirits and unquiet ghosts, if any, within a Mid Range will be attracted to it. Spirits are visible and may simply communicate to all while in Low range of the lit incense for a Low duration.
Sokutai
BaseOfficial court dress signifying the wearer as a representative of astrological authority. Once per mission, user may Pitch a social occasion, weather phenomenon or astronomical event that will happen now or soon and issue a formal proclamation about it. (Examples: Historical or religious observance, monsoon season, eclipse or meteor showers)
Elective Gear
Origata
ElectiveStack of 5 sheets of paper, easily folded into animal likenesses. inhabited by a spirit Pitched by telling a tale and thereby establishing its properties. Durability remains that of paper. Spirit starts palm sized but can be made larger by using more sheets.
Gobosei
ElectivePentagram inscribed amulet. If allowed to incant over the patient for a Low Duration, the patient can drop a threshold level of Stamina and Essence to heal all wounds short of a mortal wound or Pitch a debilitating wound to restore one threshold of Stamina and Essence.
Turtle Shells
ElectiveSet of three fast-burning shells used for divination. Cast one into a fire to ask a question of the Conduit that can be answered with Yes or No. After a Low duration, Conduit describes how it burns and the player interprets it, though they know the answer to be either yes or no.

Kuji-kiri {Cutting the nine syllables}

Disrupt what is powering an enemy
Paired Action: Make nine cutting gestures while speaking a corresponding mantra
- Supernatural target will have magical powers weakened or lost. Weaker beings can be banished outright.
- Normal target will have the emotions motivating their actions dampened or removed. Weaker willed beings will stop acting entirely.
- Impact of effect (Low to High) inversely scales with power of target.
Rude Awakening
Awaken an animistic, elemental spirit within something (natural object, weather phenomenon, human handicraft, etc.) to act according to your instructions and its nature.
Paired Action: Loudly proclaim the name of the spirit such that it can hear you and demand it rise and obey.
- Cost scales on the size of the spirit awakened (For Example sizing, Boulder/Hill/Mountain). Duration inversely scales with size of spirit (Low-Mid)
- Spirits act according to their nature. An awakened mountain could not walk but could send rockslides and open fissures. Think of natural disasters as a high end effect.
- Cooldown begins on use rather than on completion; multiple instances can be active at once.
- Spirits are upset at being awakened and only reluctantly obey the Onmyoji. Repeated commands or commands against the element's nature can cause the spirit to break control and take vengeance. Multiple spirits will act as rivals.
Pure Petition
Cost: Mid, Cooldown: Mid
Beseech the spirits of something (natural object, weather phenomenon, human handicraft, etc.) for their aid and based on their opinion of the user and their actions, receive guidance, wisdom and protection from the entreated spirit
**Paired Action: Humbly recount your worthiness in thought and deed and ask the spirits for help**
- The aid provided by the spirits should be non-violent in nature (for example:guidance, protection, and small gifts) and thematic to the type of spirits that provide the aid.
- Effectiveness of the spirits aid will scale (Low to Mid) on user’s previous respect and service to the spirit world and the persuasiveness of the request for aid
- Subsequent uses have higher effectiveness if the user has pleased the spirits.
