Hotshot beta

Description

“If everything seems under control, you’re not going fast enough”
-Mario Andretti

You are a guy, gal, or high-speedin’ pal who lives for the thrill of being behind the wheel! You trust your instincts, finding plans and maneuvers on the fly, and making decisions of life or death in a split second. Whether you race the streets, scale hills and valleys, or soar through the skies, you make the most of each moment as you zoom, swerve, and possibly crash your way into a clutch victory or a spectacular defeat!

Conduits designing a mission for you should give you opportunities to show off your driving/piloting skills. You are exceptional at traveling longer distances, and highly mobile enemies can provide a fun challenge! With enough space and freedom to pilot a craft, anywhere can become a playground for your high-octane antics, so if the conduit really wants to challenge you, they can restrict your movement with cramped spaces, hazardous obstacles, and foes hellbent on cutting your ride short.

Grounded in the trope of daredevil drivers and pilots who perform death-defying vehicular feats, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.

Edition: Advent v2

Public: Yes

Owner: MushroomPlant

Signature Gear

Base Gear

Trusty Ride

Base

Well-used car familiar to the user.
Owner may port on-mission in the vehicle, or find it in a Pitched location.
Car’s Superficial condition scales how onlookers think of the user, while vehicle speed scales inversely with its appearance. Fueled for High Duration of travel.

Daredevil’s Helmet

Base

Provides ward (H) against impacts from high speed collisions in vehicles, pressure changes, and G-forces when worn. If removed while piloting a vehicle, enter an altered state of recklessness, boosting (H) driving skill until helmet redonned (Max duration L, Mid Cooldown)

Retro Radio

Base

Portable radio attachable to surfaces. Tune to a news station to gain insight (M) on pitched topic plausibly covered by public broadcast. Tune to a music station (pitch what’s playing) to make a boosted (M) happenstance pitch regarding activity on your path of travel, thematic to the music (Shared Mid cooldown)

Elective Gear

Co-Pilot

Elective

A familiar or robotic assistant. They possess deep mechanical knowledge and are proficient in operating most vehicles.
When seated using vehicles, you and your co-pilot may swap places, simultaneously teleporting to each other’s position, seamlessly continuing operation (Max distance Low, Low Cooldown)

Hotkey

Elective

Allows owner to take control of most vehicles, even if they do not possess its “key.”
When inserted into a vehicle and twisted, the owner will quickly (but not instantly) gain expertise with the vehicle.

Slipstream Booster

Elective

Hefty rocket that can be attached/detached to a vehicle’s back.
If that vehicle has been closely trailing another vehicle, press a button to increase your vehicle’s speed by one power rating (duration scaling on how long you were trailing the other vehicle.)

Abilities

Hit the Road

Pitch a vehicle of your choice (ideally with some relevance to your character’s backstory and/or their knowledge of the setting) to be conjured next to you

Essence Cost: Low-High
Cooldown: Mid
Paired action: With sufficient empty space for the vehicle, give an overview of the vehicle you are summoning, and provide an example of your character’s experience piloting similar crafts.

  • Essence cost scales based on the size and complexity of the vehicle. (ie a bicycle would have a low essence cost, a car would have a medium cost, and a personal aircraft would have a high cost.)
  • You may only summon one vehicle with “Hit the Road” at a time. If you summon another, the previous one is banished.

Pimped Out Ride

Pitch a specialized add-on that a vehicle you are piloting has conveniently been modified to include.

Essence Cost: Low-High
Cooldown: Low
Paired action: Make a quip or cheesy pun out loud referencing the feature

  • You must come up with a plausible explanation as to why this feature was built into the vehicle in the first place.
  • Essence cost starts at low but increases by a power level for each successive use of this ability on the same vehicle

Threading the Needle

Perform a a foolish/reckless maneuver in a dangerous situation.

Essence Cost: Low
Max Duration: Low
Cooldown: Low
Paired Action: Fully lock in and brace yourself.

  • You must clearly describe the maneuver you are trying to execute. (Examples: Doing a complex stunt jump, weaving through a very tight gap, briefly “wall-riding”)
  • You may pay an additional Low cost to chain two maneuvers together in quick succession (ie. doing a complex stunt jump, landing sideways on a wall and briefly “wall-riding”)
  • For each maneuver, you must pitch a physical damage incurred upon your vehicle, scaling with the maneuver’s improbability.
