MISSION STATEMENT
Mirel Varsche has recently been captured whilst investigating an Ancient Chart she discovered, and is now incarcerated, awaiting the arrival of “the authorities”. As it happens, one detail listed on that Chart was contact information for the Enclave, which she has utilised. However, as the spire in which she is being kept is teleport-locked, agents will be dispatched to an external location nearby and must make their way to the client.
The realm now known as Cascadia is a sandstone city located within a pocket dimension, largely isolated from the rest of Manifold, in which gravity and geometry follow unpredictable patterns. It is currently crumbling away and slowly dissolving in the wake of a long-forgotten tragedy known by most as the Shattering. Amongst the survivors who still live, there are four major groups: the Dust-Readers Conclave, the Stair-Tenders, the Goo-Gatherers’ Guild (A.K.A. G3), and the Apostles of Shattering. The client belongs to the first of these groups, but only contacted Enclave after becoming separated from them, so agents should not assume any of the factions will be allies. There is also a fifth significant faction, the Archivist Remnants.
The Dust-Readers rely heavily on magic, particularly of the prophetic nature, which they use to safely traverse the city, though their warmages are able to conjure dust elementals. The Stair-Tenders are guides and navigators, rivals of the Conclave, though with little magic, their methods rely more upon trial and error. They have also been known to resort to less savoury methods when honest labour proves insufficient. G3 are alchemists, and the only faction with the knowledge and skills to refine crude goo. They are highly dangerous. The Apostles are a nihilistic cult whose hymns are said to hasten the Shattering. Lastly, the Remnants are what remains of the high civilisation who created the pocket dimension and built their city within: their technology far surpasses that of the other factions.
MISSION GOAL: Locate Mirel Varsche. Retrieve the Chart. Exit the Teleport-Locked Zone.
